February 12, 2010About SOS From Texas Organic Cotton Producers
SOS t-shirts are made from organic cotton grown on SOS's certified organic farms. SOS has been certified organic by the Texas Department of Agriculture since 1992. This certification information is provided with every SOS product to show their authenticity. There are organic products in the market with very vague organic credentials. U.S. Organic Standards require a 3 year chemical free farming period before being allowed to be "certified organic".
SOS cotton is planted in mid-May and harvested after frost in November. The harvested cotton is ginned at SOS's certified organic gin and then shipped to a certified mill in North Carolina for spinning into yarn. The yarn is also knitted, finished and sewn in the Carolinas. SOS products have a pedigree as we can tell you when and where they were planted and trace their development into a finished product. SOS organic cotton products are 100% Made in the USA, "sweat shop free", by American workers being paid a fair and lawful wage. These standards do not allow for a "cheap" organic t-shirt, but a product with a very high value and quality that our customers can be proud to wear for many years. As SOS grows organic cotton t-shirts, they share their land with you, their customers. SOS organic cotton is "good for man and good for the land" as these practices improve our environment, create jobs for people in rural American and keep the family farm and heritage sustainable. SOS organic cotton products are truly unique and we hope you enjoy the fruit of this land. |

July 2, 2009About Lamson & GoodnowLamson & Goodnow, maker of LamsonSharp cutlery, is the oldest cutlery manufacturer in the United States. Lamson & Goodnow was established in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts in 1837, and rapidly became the premier cutler in the United States. During the Civil War, the company became one of the largest United States cutlery manufacturers, employing more than 500 workers to meet the demand for their products. In 1869, the workmen of Lamson & Goodnow produced a dinner set of 62 pieces for President Ulysses S. Grant. Half of the pieces were set in pearl handles and half in ivory, with American maple leaves engraved on the handles. The workers stated that they felt a "national pride in presenting [the set] to one who will appreciate the perseverance that aims at nothing short of perfection." Today Lamson & Goodnow is still producing world class cutlery in buildings that were built in 1850. The factory was built on the banks of the Deerfield River in order to take advantage of the river's power. Today Lamson & Goodnow still uses the hydroelectric power generated by that channel developed over 150 years ago. Hydroelectric power is GREEN. It is a renewable energy source, produces no waste and since it does not burn fossil fuel, it produces no carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas). Lamson & Goodnow are green in other ways also. The stainless steel they use to produce some of the finest cutlery in the world contains 70-90% recycled content. Lamson & Goodnow are good stewards to the Earth. |
